Johnson Barn- Lake Oswego

This tiny barn is on the edge of Lake Oswego, near Tryon Creek State Park, and is surrounded by suburbia. It was built in 1910, when a small farm covered the area surrounding the barn, and was used as a horse stable. The owner, Clifford “Happy” Johnson, was the first postal carrier in the area to use a delivery wagon. Reportedly, when his horses were first hitched to the new conveyance, they objected mightily and kicked it to pieces, necessitating rebuilding it. Although the horses eventually got used to their new wagon, Clifford later became the first deliveryman in the area to use an automobile.
